Cabinet clears Rs. 1,983.51-cr highway project

Delhi Meerut Expressway Project
In a move that will go a long way in smoothening traffic flow in and around the National Capital, the union cabinet recently approved the third stretch of the Delhi-Meerut expressway project entailing an investment worth Rs. 1,983.51cr. The project, which will help reduce the travel time between Delhi and Meerut by 45 minutes from the current three hours, will involve widening of the crucial stretch from UP Gate to Dasna. The total cost of the stretch includes cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation, and other pre-construction activities, Road Ministry sources said, adding that the total length of the road will be approximately 19 kilometres.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by PM has already given its approval for the development of the second phase of Delhi-Meerut expressway between the Uttar Pradesh borders to Dasna. The other two stretches - Akshardham temple to UP Gate and Dasna to Hapur - have already been approved by the cabinet and that the PM on December 31, 2015, had unveiled a plaque to mark the laying of the foundation stone of the mega Delhi-Meerut Expressway entailing a total investment worth Rs 7,566cr.
