In its quest to build the matching road infrastructure across the border belt in Arunachal Pradesh, the Border Road Organization (BRO) has fast tracked the 317.95 km long Balipara-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) road, technically referred as the BCT road corridor, lauded as the lifeline of West Kameng and Tawang districts of the state. The BCT road with a whopping length crisscrossing Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, is being built under improvement to National Highway Double Lane (NHDL) specifications. Till date, 56.21% progress has been made on the road despite inhospitable climatic condition and tough terrains. The senior official of the BRO assured the state government that a considerable difference will be visible on the construction work of the stretch in the next couple of months as the recent rains have hampered the progress on this score. He further informed that BCT corridor also includes three bypasses – Bomdila bypass, Dirang bypass and Jung bypass. While the works are on for construction of the Bomdila bypass, the other two bypasses are still at the survey stage. Besides the bypasses, two tunnels are in the project that will allow commuters bypass the snow-covered Sela Pass and save hours of journey to Tawang.
