Centre Approves Rs 414 Crore Elevated Flyover Project On NH-66 Near New Mangalore Port

Elevated-Corridor
The Central Government has approved the construction of an elevated flyover and service road project from Baikampady to KIOCL Junction on NH-66 in Karnataka at a cost of Rs 414.2 crore. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated the tendering process for the project.

According to Dakshina Kannada MP Brijesh Chowta, the project aims to improve direct connectivity to New Mangalore Port and strengthen cargo movement infrastructure in the region.

The project includes development of a 3.1-km stretch comprising a 1.5-km-long six-lane elevated flyover and 5.8 km of service roads along the highway. The corridor will be developed under the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) model. The New Mangalore Port Authority will provide additional land and financial assistance for project implementation.

The Baikampady-KIOCL Junction stretch on NH-66 is a key access route for export-import cargo movement to and from the port. The new elevated corridor is expected to separate highway traffic from local vehicles, improving traffic flow, reducing congestion and enhancing road safety.

The project is also expected to support industrial and economic growth in the Baikampady industrial area and surrounding port zone, while improving long-term connectivity infrastructure across the coastal region.

In addition, an underpass construction project near Baikampady and Kuloor Junction on NH-66, valued at Rs 11.6 crore, is already under implementation.
