The largest paint-maker of the country, Berger Paints, has decided to invest about Rs. 500-cr to expand its capacity by setting up new units over the next couple of years after which the total capacity is expected to go up by nearly 25% or by 10,000 ton per month across decorative and industrial paints. The existing capacity stands at around 32,000 tons per month for decorative and 6,000 tons per month in the industrial paint category, MD and CEO, Berger, Abhijit Roy said, adding that its Rs. 90-cr greenfield plant at Tejpur in Assam with a capacity of 4,000 tons per month is going on stream by January next year. This apart, expansion will be carried out at Jejuri (Maharashtra) and Hindupur (Andhra) units. The total capacity addition across these two units will be around 6,000 tons per month. Berger will also set-up a mixing unit in Gujarat at a cost of Rs. 10cr, while an emulsion unit for the basic raw material required for paint, will come up at Rishra (West Bengal) at an estimated cost of Rs. 25cr, he claimed.
