Bairabi–Sairang Railway Line Completed, Aizawl Gets Direct Rail Connectivity

The long-awaited 51.38 km Bairabi–Sairang railway line in Mizoram has been completed and is set to be inaugurated soon, directly connecting the state capital Aizawl to the Indian Railways network for the first time. Until now, the railway line ended at Bairabi, and travel to Aizawl was possible only by road—often disrupted by landslides and weather conditions.
This strategic infrastructure project links Aizawl to key cities like Silchar and Guwahati, significantly cutting travel time and improving logistics. Featuring 48 tunnels, multiple bridges, and four newly built stations, Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang, the project marks a major milestone in enhancing connectivity in the North East.
The line also incorporates sustainable features such as eco-friendly LED lighting and solar power in tunnels. For added safety, low-smoke-emission cables have been installed to reduce fire-related risks. The railway line is expected to not only ease passenger movement but also drive growth in trade, tourism, and regional development.
