Construction work on the four lane, 20-km bridge over the Brahmaputra river in Assam is set to start. The ₹4,997 crore project will provide the much needed fillip to road communication between Assam and Meghalaya and is also close to the Bangladesh border connecting Dhubri in Assam with Phulbari in Meghalaya on National Highway-127B. The project is being taken up with loan assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The project is expected to be completed in 2026-27 and is being spearheaded by the North East Road Network Connectivity Improvement Project. The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) - the executing agency - has floated a tender for design, engineering, and supply of the bridge with approaches over River Brahmaputra.
