The state government in Andhra Pradesh has taken a decision to build four-lane Samalkot-Rajanagaram road, a part of Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor, in Kakinada at an investment of ₹300.28 crore. The foundation stone for the 29.6-km existing two lanes road will shortly be laid by the state's CM for the project being financed by the Asian Development Bank (78.5 per cent) and remaining portion of funds will be chipped in by the State government. The 72.5 acres of land required for the project from Samalkot to Rajanagaram has already been acquired. The highway will have 4.5 metres median in rural areas and footpaths and service roads in urban areas and at Rajanagaram, the road will directly be connected to National Highway 16, said state government sources.
