To provide better transportation, road connectivity and to link Mandal headquarters with district headquarters, the Roads and Buildings department of Andhra Pradesh Government has proposed to take up two projects — AP Mandal Connectivity and Rural Connectivity Improvement Project (APMCRCIP) and AP Roads and Bridges Reconstruction Project (APRBRP), at an estimated cost of ₹6,400 crore. The CM directed officials to take up development of roads ensuring quality in an expeditious manner as road development would play a key role in development of the state besides providing rural connectivity to ports and industrial hubs and opening up huge job generation avenues to the local population. The Centre, State government and New Development Bank (NDB) signed loan agreements for $323 million each (NDB share 70 per cent) for the two projects. In the first phase, 1,243 km distance roads will be developed at a cost of ₹2,978 crore and with reverse tendering ₹85.43 crore is likely to be saved. The first phase of the project will begin shortly while DPR for the second phase is currently in progress.
