Envisaging world-class facilities at the Amritsar railway station, the ministry has chalked out an ambitious plan of Rs.1,000-crore to inject a complete facelift to the new platform. Tenders for the project inviting multinational expertise are being floated shortly as Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has already given a formal approval to the project. Preliminary concept plans for the project has been developed and a presentation given to the engineering department of the railways envisaged LED lighting system, elevators, Wi-Fi, malls, smart parking among other facilities that are considered to build a state-of-the-art platform. The Tourism ministry has also sanctioned Rs.13 crore for the station and it will construct executive lounge on first floor and NITI Aayog also cleared Rs.300 crore for 26 km rail link connecting Ferozepurpatti, and railway ministry released Rs.300 crore for the same connectivity. For the Ferozepur-Patti rail link — Patti (in Tarn Taran district) to Makhu (a rural town under Zira subdivision in Ferozepur district) —decks have been cleared for a shorter travel between the northern states, said official sources.
