AFD clears ₹189 cr for Kochi metro project

The French Development Agency (AFD) has agreed to extend financial assistance to the tune of ₹189 cr to Kochi Metro Corporation Ltd (KMRL) for the development of non-motorized transport projects from Aluva to SN Junction in the metro corridor. The assistance will be for the development of Aluva Junction, Edappally Junction, Vyttila Junction, Petta Junction, SN Junctions and improvements of road network in the surrounding areas. French Development Agency AFD recently reviewed the progress of Kochi Metro Rail’s first phase and has agreed to consider the proposals for developing non-motorized transport project from Aluva to SN Junction (Tripunithura) and improving the Sahodaran Ayyappan (SA) Road, metro sources said that the AFD team has expressed satisfaction over Phase I’s progress and indicated their willingness to consider Phase-II, Phase-IA up to SN Junction of Kochi Metro for future funding. With the help of AFD, KMRL will be able to execute the projects, which will surely improve the city landscape to international levels, Managing Director, KMRL, A P M Mohammed Hanish said.
