Abilities India Secures 2nd Patent for Lightweight Piston Manufacturing

India Pistons & Rings Ltd.
Abilities India Pistons & Rings Ltd., a prominent manufacturer of pistons, piston rings, gravity casting, pressure die casting, and coatings, has announced the grant of its second patent for a revolutionary High-Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) process for lightweight piston manufacturing. This innovative process is projected to reduce the weight of pistons used in two-wheelers (2W) and three-wheelers (3W) by 10-15%, leading to significant annual savings in aluminum and a notable reduction in carbon emissions.

With the current annual production of 20 million 2W/3W vehicles, the new HPDC process will save approximately 307.5 tons of aluminum each year. By 2030, this saving is expected to rise to 461.25 tons annually. The corresponding reduction in carbon emissions is estimated at 920 tons per annum presently, increasing to 1,380 tons per annum by 2030.

Sunil Arora, Chairman and Managing Director of Abilities India Pistons & Rings Ltd., emphasized the company's commitment to innovation and sustainability. He stated, "At Abilities India, we are dedicated to pioneering research and technological advancements within the auto components industry. Our second patent underscores our unwavering commitment to innovation and sustainability in automotive manufacturing. With this cutting-edge manufacturing process, we are improving engine performance and actively reducing emissions, thus shaping the future of automotive technology."

Tushar Arora, Joint Managing Director and CEO, highlighted the transformative impact of the new technology. "Our newly patented High-Pressure Die Casting process is a game-changer for the automotive industry. By reducing piston weight, we are enhancing fuel efficiency and engine performance while also cutting down on material usage and carbon emissions. We are excited about the transformative potential of this technology," he commented.
