Hyundai India: Focus on Smart+ Excavators
Hyundai India displayed its 3 and 5-ton wheel loaders which have been indigenously manufactured at Hyundai’s Chakan Plant. Also on display was the company’s HX 360L and HX 380L series of excavator and new ‘Smart+’ excavators which are an improved version over the previous Robex series, under the 3-8-14-and 15 ton class.
“Our Smart+ excavators feature digitized technology, a new design, and superior components,” informed Rajiv Chaturvedi - Vice President, Hyundai Construction Equipment India. “In fact, all our products are the best-in-class due to their advanced hydraulics, fuel-efficient engines, advanced mechanisms safety features, better ergonomics in operator cabins, etc, and are completely IoT-enabled, which allows for their real-time performance assessment. Today, we not only hold second position in the Indian excavators business but are also major exporters to more than 30 countries like the Middle East, Africa, SAARC region etc.”
Hyundai India has produced 45,000 units of excavators ever since it’s commenced production in India in 2008. It now aims to strengthen its brand identity in excavators and wheel loaders with enhanced product support services. Informed Chaturvedi, “The Indian construction equipment market for excavators and wheel loaders may have attained similar quality standards in the machinery and other features, but the key differentiator is the service rendered by the OEM. At Hyundai India, we have backed our dealers’ product services to customers with constant support to enhance equipment uptime through preventive maintenance; our market leadership with 70% repeat customers bears testimony to this claim. We also owe our leading position to our strong product manufacturing capabilities at Chakan and our research and development activities at Hinjewadi for rolling out superior products.”
He informed that the company will expand its excavator business by manufacturing mini excavators from its Chakan facility as they expect to get good business volumes from this product line as well as from its wheel loaders. As regards the competitive positioning of attachments like hydraulic rock breakers (where there is large presence of other Korean manufacturers in India), Chaturvedi said that their strategy will be to offer premium, value-for-money products and economically priced rock breakers.
