Akshat Gala, Cheif Marketing Officer, Metro Groups
Akshat Gala, Cheif Marketing Officer, Metro Groups, discusses the growing demand across industries for lifting heavier cargo, and the company’s aim to become a one-stop solution provider for all logistic requirements.

What is driving the growth of the lifting industry?
Industries are procuring bigger and more advanced equipment to manage the increased movement of cargo, for upgrading their manufacturing facilities, transporting heavy machineries, etc - all of which have heavy lifting requirements.

While there are many crane companies that are fully equipped with heavy-duty cranes and all the accessories, there are new players entering the market that are not so well equipped. Uncertainties about getting orders, and a volatile market makes them opt for renting products like spreader beams and other accessories, and restrict them from stocking lifting parts and spares.

Metro Groups: Expanding Services
The growing demand for bigger cranes for lifting heavier cargo is providing us many opportunities for promoting our products. We are also offering tailor-made solutions. Currently, we have different kinds of spreaders with holding capacity of maximum 300 MT for various lifting projects. Our range of spreader beams allow us to provide appropriate lifting solutions in combination with crane capacity, which fits well into their dimensions.

How has the increase in steel prices impacted the lifting industry?
We all know that the Covid lockdown changed the demand-supply matrix. Amidst the soaring price of steel, Indian steel manufacturers are trying to strike a balance in the demand and supply ratio of materials used for lifting such as wire slings, webbing belts, special hooks etc, and thus indirectly helping the lifting industry to meet demand for these products.

Why is it difficult to bring standardization in the heavy material lifting industry?
Standardization is required but is very difficult to implement because every requirement demands unique solutions and keeping set standards and dimensions may not be possible. Each requirement varies from cargo to cargo and let’s not forget the most important external factors – the geographic locations, space constraints, time constraints etc, which contradict the concept of setting up fixed standards. The only thing the industry must always keep in mind is quality products of high standards and genuine products.

Metro Groups: Expanding Services

What products does the Metro Group offer?

We also undertake fabrication.

Ove these 40 years we have learnt, developed, and evolved as a Group, and are ready to embrace new opportunities. Given our vast experience, product knowledge, and expertise, our aim is to be seen as a one-stop supplier of under the hook solutions, packaging solutions, lashing & choking solutions, and safety solutions.

Please share a recent project undertaken by your company.
In the month of November 2021, an enquiry was raised from a client to load a mega mining dump truck of 176 MT. There was a lot of brainstorming, calculations, and discussions for doing the job with complete efficiency.

We proposed using our spreader MG 160 F with the capacity of 150 MT SWL for the job. We planned to load it on a tandem operation using the beam at the back and keeping the slings at a precise angle. We executed the job successfully thanks to our team’s efforts, and we received a lot of appreciation from our foreign and Indian clients.
