In a bid to ensure full utilization of its trucking fleet, logistics service provider CJ Darcl Logistics Limited has tied up with Netradyne Technology, which will provide onboard camera fitments on Darcl trucks. The cameras will capture the driver’s driving behaviour such as alertness, awareness of signage warnings etc, so that improvements can be on his driving skills based on the data gathered.

Informs Durgadutt Nedungadi, Senior Vice President-International Business, Netradyne, “Our device will consist of two cameras which will be fitted onto the truck’s cabin. One will face the road in order to capture the signages like stop signs, speed restrictions etc, to alert the driver, while the other will be placed inside the driver’s cabin to take images of the driver’s driving behavior, alertness etc. The images gathered will be transmitted through cloud to the central server for analysis. Based on the report gathered, requisite training will be rendered to the driver to enhance his safe driving, alertness in inclement weather conditions and in undulated terrains, and other driving skills.”
He adds, “Since CJ Darcl owns different kinds of trucks of different OEMs, we will provide custom-fitted cameras and varied algorithms based on the operational needs. The cameras can be fitted on the inbuilt hardtop cabins of the trucks such as on the off highway tipper trucks. The cameras can also be customized with the required algorithms on trucks with cowl chassis, where the truck cabins are being made by different body builders. We will accordingly make modifications in our cameras.”
According to Nikhil Agarwal, though most OEMs of trucks also provide similar safety tools and monitoring services, along with driver training under varied operating conditions, the reason why they chose to tie-up with Netradyne was because they wanted a unified centralized system. “Our trucks are sourced from different OEMs, which do not provide such cameras as a standard fitment. We were looking for a more unified centralized system which could be custom engineered as per our requirements for improving our trucks’ operations. We feel that with Netradyne, which is an end-to-end technology provider, we will be able to harness maximum benefits of their technology to minimize accidents.”
Durgadutt Nedungadi is confident of demand picking up for onboard cameras by truck fleet owners in India. “There is greater safety awareness amongst individual truck owners and fleet operators, plus, safety regulations are becoming more stringent. And this trend will only pick up pace as owning a truck or a fleet is a big capital investment; hence, ensuring their safety is a priority of the owners.”
