Wipro kick starts construction of aerospace zone

In a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a new Aerospace Special Economic Zone at Devanahalli in Benguluru, the Aerospace business of Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (WIN) has commenced construction work of its second plant in the city, which will house Aerostructure Machining and Surface Treatment Lines for aerospace components. Spread across 10 acres, the plant will come up in phases; in the first phase, machining operations will start in the first quarter of the next fiscal. In the second phase, surface treatment lines for aerospace components will commence by 2021. Once the new facility is fully operational, it would open up huge job avenues for the locals. The first plant spread over seven acres manufactures hydraulic actuator parts for landing gears and engine cowl opening systems, besides which, the company will manufacture aero structural parts. The Wipro Aerospace commenced deliveries to Boeing from this plant. Wipro Infrastructure Engineering CEO Pratik Kumar said that the company believes in building an integrated ecosystem for precision flight-critical components and systems, and once the second plant becomes operational, the facilities will cover over 17 acres in the SEZ.
