Welspun Enterprises Secures ₹1,989 Cr Tunnel Contract from BMC

Welspun Enterprises Limited (WEL), the infrastructure and energy arm of Welspun World, has secured a ₹1,989.40 crore contract from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the design and construction of a Tertiary Treated Water Conveyance Tunnel from Dharavi to Ghatkopar Wastewater Treatment Facilities. The 8.48 km long tunnel, with a diameter of 2.7 meters, will be constructed using a tunnel boring machine (TBM) and includes two deep shafts. The project is slated for completion in 93 months.
With this order, WEL’s order book rises to ~₹14,300 crore, with significant contributions from the water and tunnel sectors. Additionally, Welspun Michigan Engineers Limited has secured a ₹24.60 crore wastewater treatment project in Maharashtra. The consolidated order book now stands at ~₹15,800 crore.
BK Goenka, Chairman, Welspun World, said, “The above projects are a testament of our commitment to sustainable infrastructure development, in line with our stated objectives of Growth and Green. Both these projects are aimed at improving water quality and contribute to circular economy by reuse of treated wastewater.”
Sandeep Garg, Managing Director, Welspun Enterprises Limited, remarked, “We are honoured to be working with the BMC for the DGT project, which is their path-breaking endeavour to reuse treated wastewater in a comprehensive manner. With this project, WEL at the consolidated level, would be collecting the wastewater at source, conveying it to the wastewater treatment facility at Dharavi and transporting the treated water for further refinement and reuse. This is a unique combination of projects that holistically benchmarks the concept of reuse of wastewater.”
