Welspun Enterprises Secures Contract for Mumbai Water Treatment Plant
The contract, valued at ₹4,123.88 Crores, includes the design, construction, and operations & maintenance (O&M) of the plant. The O&M component accounts for ₹1,880.44 Crores. The project is scheduled to be completed within 48 months, after which WEL will undertake O&M responsibilities for 15 years.
The proposed water treatment plant, among the largest globally in terms of capacity, will be situated at BMC’s Bhandup Complex, currently supplying drinking water to Mumbai City through existing Water Treatment Plants. WEL has partnered with Veolia, a leading technology company specializing in the water sector, as its Technology provider for the project, aiming to leverage advanced treatment processes and technologies for sustainable infrastructure solutions.
In recent years, WEL has made significant progress and expanded its presence in the water sector in India. The company is currently involved in prestigious projects, including the Rural Water Supply Project under the Government of India’s Jal Jeevan Mission in Uttar Pradesh and the 418 MLD Waste Water Treatment Facility (WwTF) project at Dharavi, Mumbai. In August 2023, WEL acquired Michigan Engineers Pvt. Ltd. to bolster its position in the urban water infrastructure and tunnelling solutions segment.
