The state government in Andhra Pradesh has decided to stretch the distance of the Vizag Metro Rail up to 79.91 km, in the first phase and has accordingly directed the Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC) to appoint a consultant for preparing Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project. The AMRC has also been instructed to consult the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) Ltd, and the Urban Mass Transit Company (UMTC) Ltd on this score. The first phase of the metro rail in Vizag is initially scheduled to be taken up in three corridors for a distance of 46.4 km and with the final declaration, the corridor proposed, from Gajuwaka to Kommadi, will be increased to the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport. The other corridors are Gurudwara to the Old Post Office of 5.26 km and Thatichetlapalem to the Rama Krishna Beach Road of 6.91 km while some of the second phases of the metro rail project in Vizag, 60 km-long trackless tram line has been introduced. These trams, which run on virtual routes on the road, based on work the autonomous rail rapid transit system where sensors on the coaches will identify these virtual routes.
