VISL gets 'go-ahead' for port project

Vizhinjam International Seaport
After securing the clearance from the National Green Tribunal for the construction of the multi-million Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd. (VISL) being developed by Kerala government in collaboration with Adani Group, the state government is all set to start the construction work of the mega port project very shortly. The Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance, which was granted by the Environment Ministry, also gave a free hand to the committee to impose additional conditions in addition to those in the environmental and CRZ clearances in the interest of the protecting environment and ecology. Currently, large container cargo vessels dock in Dubai, Singapore, Colombo, among others, which are the trans-shipment hubs for goods meant for India. This would result in trans-shipment of trade including of the goods meant for Bangladesh, Burma, among others. Besides, it will also boost the development of Indian coastal shipping which is much cheaper than any other mode of transport, said official sources.
