Vadhavan Port to Boost India’s Container Capacity by 23.2 Million TEUs on IMEC Corridor

The upcoming Vadhavan Port, a deep-draft facility along the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), is set to boost India’s container handling capacity by 23.2 million TEUs, positioning it among the world’s key maritime hubs.

To support this development, multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed. Vadhavan Port Project Ltd (VPPL) has partnered with Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) to enhance educational outreach. Another MoU between Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and the Directorate General of Shipping aims to provide skill training to locals and project-affected people through selected Maritime Training Institutes.

VPPL has also joined hands with Sahyadri Farms to promote rural entrepreneurship and strengthen the agri-value chain. Additionally, skill development in heavy vehicle driving and mechanics is underway in collaboration with NGOs. A dedicated WhatsApp chatbot has been launched by VPPL to streamline access to information and registration for skilling programs among the youth in the region.
