UP to start work on ₹36,410-cr Ganga expressway project

The Uttar Pradesh government is all set to start the construction work on the Meerut- Allahabad Ganga Expressway project involving an investment of ₹36,410-crore. The CM office has directed the departments concerned to work in "mission mode" to start the greenfield project as quickly as possible. The foundation stone for the 594-km-long six-lane expressway, expandable to eight-lane, would be laid shortly after the on-going process of land acquisition is completed. An estimated ₹9,255 crore will be spent towards land acquisition, while ₹22,145 crore will go to carry out civil works on the mega project. The highway will crisscross twelve districts of the state including Meerut, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh and Allahabad. The state government has also decided to set up industrial clusters along the expressway. In regards to financing the project, the state government has received foreign proposals besides the offers from domestic and multilateral banks.
