In a bid to provide faster metro rail services to the masses of the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister during the inauguration of the Delhi Metro's Magenta line in Noida has said that the state will extend the metro line services to their home turf including the twin towns of Varanasi and Gorakhpur and detailed project report (DPR) being prepared for both these projects. Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) and RITES are preparing the metro rail DPR for Varanasi and Gorakhpur, and this is expected to be submitted to the State government in the next few weeks. DPR for Kanpur is also being revised in light of the new provisions mentioned in the new policy, which was approved by the Centre on August 16, 2017. Similar exercise would be undertaken in due course for other major towns as well, including Agra, Meerut, Allahabad, Jhansi and Moradabad, among others. Currently, three UP towns have operational metro rail services, including Noida, Lucknow and Ghaziabad.
