TSPD expands operational ambit into housing sector

Housing Sector
After carving out a niche in setting up fuel stations, spas and food courts, the Telangana State Prisons Department has recently forayed into housing development for middle and lower middle class families. The activity is being taken up in 10 districts after purchasing land from the owners on the lines of the State government's 2-BHK scheme for poor people. The department will construct houses on a cost-to-cost basis in gated communities, Prisons and Correctional Services Director-General VK Singh said that those released from jails would be hired along with the retired staff. The department has come up with this innovative idea which has not been implemented by Prisons departments anywhere in the world. The department's My Nation' outlets, petrol pumps, Ayurvedic villages, food courts and spas have all been highly successful and it is envisaged that the housing project will also be roaring success.
