The state government in Tamil Nadu has decided to build Goripalayam junction, Arapalayam, Periyar, Simmakkal and bypass road at an investment of ₹320 crore. In this connection tenders are being floated for Vaigai River Bank road widening project for a distance 10 kms which would ease traffic within the city besides helping to keep the Vaigai clean, said official sources, claiming that score of steps have already been announced for easing the traffic in the choked city. As a part of the flyovers planned, one is under construction at Kalavasal due to which there has been heavy traffic congestion in the area. Another proposal is to widen the Vaigai north and southern bank roads from Arapalayam to Viraganoor where vehicles coming from the Dindigul highway bound for the southern districts of Virudhunagar and Ramanathapuram can avoid going to the city and take the four-lane highway. Highways department have conducted preliminary inspections for the scheme and submitted the feasibility report to the state government and the construction work will be started on fast tracked basis.
