TN takes up ₹1,500-cr World Bank funded road projects

The state government in Tamil Nadu recently announced the construction of 109 km long state highway together with main district roads involving a combined investment of ₹1,500 crore and the entire project is being financed by the World Bank. Among others, the project included the construction of 54 bridges in 18 districts that will benefit over 10 lakh rural folks costing worth ₹310 crore, the state CM, Palaniswami, said, adding that the state government would construct a new sluice near the Lower Anaicut in Thanjavur district at a cost of ₹650 crore. In the agriculture sector, a lift irrigation scheme will be implemented in select places at Thanjavur, Kanniyakumari, Dharmapuri, Tiruvannamalai, and Tiruvarur at a cost of ₹485.50 crore and also upgrading the Madurantakam, Perumal, Wallajah and Madhavaram lakes and enhance their infrastructure at an investment of ₹302 crore.
