In an attempt to launch 37 infra projects with estimated investment of Rs.1,795 crore under the smart city scheme, the state government is all set to float tenders and another 119 schemes of Rs.11,134 crore are currently under the planning stage. The scope of work in the projects included creating allied infrastructure for drinking water, sewerage and storm water drains, said official sources, claiming that the plans are the part of 173 schemes under the Centre‘s Smart City Mission program in 10 cities in the state at an investment of Rs.13,425 crore. Under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme, the state government will float tender worth Rs.1,823 crore for 145 projects, which include parks, sewerage and drinking water including a drinking project worth Rs.1079.89 crore to increase capacity of 150 MLD to Nemmeli plant, is also in the pipeline. Detailed planning for projects of Rs.3,505.97 crore is under way. About 33 cities, including 12 corporations, 15 municipalities and one Panchayat union, in Tamil Nadu are under AMRUT, which aims to improve quality of life by improving basic infrastructure such as drinking water, building pedestrian platforms and proper drainage system.
