Thyssenkrupp Elevators has won a contract to provide 15 elevators and 8 escalators for the Pune International Airport. To cater to the increasing demand for a new airport in the city of over 7.5 million people, the airport authorities are revamping and expanding the existing airport. The Pune airport doubles up as a civilian airport, as well as a military airbase. The 42,000 sqm new terminal building would be integrated with the existing one. The project will see investments of Rs 1,000 crore, which will be used for expanding the terminal, cargo handling facilities, roads and parking spaces to augment capacity. The elevator and escalator installation is expected to be completed by March 2021. In addition, the company has also won a project for the LGBI Airport in Guwahati, where it will be installing 25 elevators, 10 escalators and two moving walkers.
