TERRA TEC EPBMs take up challenging digging task

Terra Tec
TERRA TEC EPBMs are set to take up the 5-km long underground section of the 16.56-km-long Line 1 corridor that runs from PCMC to Swargate – the most challenging portion of the line - as it passes through the densely populated areas of Kasba Peth, Budhwar Peth and Mandai market. The TERRATEC EPBMs will have mixed-face dome-style cutter heads designed to work effectively in the compact basalt expected with pressures of up to 4 bars. As the TBMs progress, they will install 1,400mm wide by 275mm thick pre-cast concrete lining rings. Pune as an industrial city has witnessed a lot of corporate and industrial infrastructure development over the last decade. The Pune Metro will offer a safe and eco-friendly commute with 50% reduction in travel time. When completed in 2022, it will comprise three rail corridors with a total length of 54.5km. Construction of the first two phases is currently underway.
