Telangana speeds up ₹543-cr check dam projects

Telangana government has sanctioned ₹453 crore for construction of 205 check dams which will provide irrigation water to farmers, said official spokesperson B Govardhan Reddy. About 1,200 tmc of water is discharged into the sea every year and to make the most out of it, the state administration has decided to construct barrages at Medigadda and Ponkal for optimum utilization of the Godavari and its tributaries. The government released the NABARD funds for building the check dams and tendering process for 104 check dams worth ₹275 crore is currently in full swing, while the remaining dams would be taken up soon. The project will help irrigate around 1 lakh acres of agriculture land.
