Tehri Lake to get over 230-km long Ring Road in Uttarakhand

Tehri Lake
Uttarakhand government has planned to build an over 230-km long ring road along Tehri Lake to bolster tourism in the rural heartland of the state which has a huge potential of becoming the future international tourism destination. Tehri Dam (1000 MW capacity) is the country's highest dam and fourth highest dam in the world. The State Chief Secretary, Om Prakash, informed that building a ring road is the top priority of the current state government. The administration has directed officials to carry out a feasibility study of the area to explore the tourism potential and technical aspects of the project since the road is of over 234 km long. The dam is on the Bhagirathi river which cuts its path through the Himalayas and flows a distance of over 234 km from Gaumukh and transverses through two districts-Uttarkashi and Tehri–to reach Devprayag confluence where another headstream, Alaknanda River, joins to form Ganga and flow into Haridwar. The state government has a plan of setting up a state-of-the-art water adventure sports facility at Tehri Lake to attract tourists from both within and outside the country.
