Tata Steel Ships 1,499 MT Cargo to Guwahati via Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route, Boosting Inland Waterways Logistics

A high-value cargo consignment of granulated blast furnace slag and TMT bars has reached Pandu via the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route, marking a significant development in the use of inland waterways for bulk cargo transport.

The consignment was shipped by Tata Steel Limited, Kolkata, for Larsen & Toubro Limited, Guwahati. It included 23,980 bags of granulated blast furnace slag weighing approximately 1,199 MT, along with 300 MT of TMT bars.

The cargo was transported using Tug MV Trishul along with barges D.B. Dikhu and D.B. Ajay, demonstrating the growing efficiency of multimodal logistics through inland waterways.

The movement highlights the increasing adoption of water transport for heavy and bulk cargo, supported by the Inland Waterways Authority of India, which is facilitating improved logistics efficiency and regional connectivity through the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route.
