Tamil Nadu CM Inaugurates Rs 228 Cr Avinashi Road Elevated Corridor in Coimbatore
Constructed at a cost of Rs 228 crore, the project involved acquiring around 4.9 acres of land. Work began in 2020 to address severe traffic bottlenecks along Avinashi Road, a key route connecting the city to Coimbatore International Airport. The corridor reduces travel time on this 10 km stretch from at least 45 minutes during peak hours to under 10 minutes.
The corridor features a combination of six-lane and four-lane sections, forming a 10-lane high-level flyover that passes major junctions including Airport, Codissia, Hope College, Nava India, Lakshmi Mills, and Anna Statue. It also incorporates a railway crossing, eliminating one of the area’s most frequent traffic choke points.
For commuter convenience, four boarding and alighting platforms have been built at Coimbatore Airport, Hope College, Nava India, and Anna Statue. The elevated corridor is Tamil Nadu’s first to include a full-length rainwater harvesting system and is equipped with world-class amenities such as reinforced safety barriers, roller shutters, and modern lighting for enhanced visibility and security.
