South Central Railway gets ₹5,924-cr budget booster
South Central Railway (SCR) has been sanctioned ₹5,924 crore for the year 2019-20 in the recently presented budget by the finance minister, Additional General Manager John Thomas said elaborating that funds include a sum of ₹1,905 crore for doubling rail lines works, ₹834 crore for new lines, ₹138 crore for traffic facilities and ₹229 crore for building allied passenger facilities within its jurisdiction. The budget allocations for safety related works such as Road over/under Bridges (Road Safety Works), is ₹397 crore, while for bridges, the grant is ₹52 crore and ₹657 crore is for track renewals. In a major boost to ongoing projects in Telangana, ₹200 crore was allotted for the Manoharabad-Kothapalli new line project sanctioned in 2006-07 for a distance of 150 km at an estimated cost of ₹1,160 crore. The first phase of the project from Manoharabad – Gajwel for a distance of 32 km is nearing completion. Giving a thrust to MMTS phase II, ₹20 crore was allotted for the Ghatkesar–Yadadri extension, he added.
