The Urban Development Ministry is all set implement the single window clearance mechanism for the real estate sector. In this connection, it has directed the state to notify rules enabling RERA, within a fortnight, Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu said, reiterating that the ministry has asked Karnataka to recommend a single window clearance system for realty projects. This has been a long-standing demand as currently developers have to approach at least eight departments — ranging from the local town planning authority to the Revenue Department and utility companies. For larger apartments, area planning authorities, electrical inspectorates, pollution control, fire safety, labour, among other departments, need to be approached consuming avoidable time. A single window is needed if the Real Estate Regulation and Development Act (RERA) to be implemented in its true spirit, said an expert.
