Shri Manohar Lal Visits Nepal to Strengthen India-Nepal Energy Cooperation
Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, visited Nepal to review and advance key bilateral energy initiatives, marking a new chapter in India-Nepal energy cooperation focused on regional connectivity and sustainable development.

During his visit to Nepal’s Sankhuwasabha district, the Minister inspected progress on the 900 MW Arun-3 Hydroelectric Project, being developed by India’s SJVN Limited. The project stands as a flagship symbol of the strong India-Nepal collaboration in the hydropower sector. Shri Manohar Lal also inaugurated the commencement of electromechanical works at the powerhouse site—an important milestone for the timely execution of the project.
Later in Kathmandu, in the presence of Shri Manohar Lal and Nepal's Energy Minister Shri Dipak Khadka, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between POWERGRID and the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). The MoU enables the formation of two joint venture companies—one in India and one in Nepal—to implement high-capacity cross-border transmission infrastructure.
Planned projects include the 400 kV Inaruwa (Nepal)–New Purnea (India) and 400 kV Dododhara (Nepal)–Bareilly (India) double-circuit transmission lines. These critical links aim to enhance power exchange capabilities, ensure grid stability, and drive economic growth and energy security across the region.
