Shree Cement Commissions 6 MWp Solar Plant at Roorkee

Shree Cement Ltd., one of India’s leading cement manufacturers, has commissioned a 6.0 MWp solar power plant at its Roorkee unit in Uttarakhand, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to renewable energy and decarbonization.

Located adjacent to its existing cement operations, the new plant expands the solar capacity at the Roorkee facility from 1.0 MWp to 7.0 MWp, a sevenfold increase. With this addition, Shree Cement’s total solar capacity has reached 293.5 MWp, further strengthening its position as a leader in sustainable manufacturing in India’s cement industry.

This development aligns with the company’s RE100 targets, aimed at transitioning to 100% renewable electricity, and supports its broader environmental goals.

Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director, Shree Cement said, “Sustainability is embedded in everything we do. The commissioning of the Roorkee solar plant is a testament to our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and building long-term energy resilience. Developed with a capital investment of approximately ₹16 crore, the solar power plant is expected to significantly reduce reliance on grid power and offset around 6,500 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, contributing meaningfully to climate action.
