SCCL floats tenders for Kalyani-Khani coal blocks

Matching its fuel requirements for new power plants, Singareni Collieries Co Ltd (SCCL), has decided to expedite the development of certain coal mining projects, including the Kalyani Khani-6 Incline block. It has invited expression of interest for carrying out pre-mining activities in Telangana that have extract-able reserves of 15.65 million tons (MT) in a new underground coal mining project and is carved out of Mandamarri shaft block in the Mancherial district of Telangana. The development and extraction of coal seams will be through three continuous miner technology equipment in a phased manner and by outsourcing in the KK6 Incline in the Mandamarri area, said official sources. After bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh state, Telangana has become a power deficit state and has embarked on an action plan for capacity addition of around 6,000 MW. SCCL is also constructing a power plant of 1,800 MW capacity in Srirampur area in Telangana. NTPC also has the mandate as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act to set up a 4,000 MW power plant in Telangana. With the addition of new power plants, there will be additional demand of SCCL to the extent of 40 MT of coal over and above the existing supplies. In view of this, the company has undertaken certain opencast and underground projects to increase production.
