Sagarmala Programme Boosts Port-Led Development

The Sagarmala Programme, led by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, aims to drive port-led development by utilizing India's 7,500 km coastline and 14,500 km of navigable waterways.
It focuses on five key areas: port modernization, port connectivity, port-led industrialization, coastal community development, and coastal shipping & inland waterways. The programme involves 839 projects worth ₹5.79 lakh crore, with 272 projects valued at ₹1.41 lakh crore already completed.
Under port modernization, 103 completed projects have added over 528 MTPA of port capacity. The projects are executed by central ministries, IWAI, Indian Railways, state governments, and major ports.
