Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways, is observing World Quality Month throughout November to promote the importance of quality management in infrastructure development. As part of the celebrations, RVNL’s Programme Implementation Unit (PIU) Pune, executing the Pune Metro Reach–1 Extension Project, organized a special event on 13th November to mark World Quality Day.

The event centered around this year’s global theme, “Quality: Think Differently,” which encourages innovation and challenges traditional approaches to quality management.

The Pune Metro Reach–1 Extension Project, being executed by RVNL for Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro), forms part of the North–South Corridor (Purple Line). The project includes the design and construction of a 4.519 km elevated viaduct from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Nigdi (Bhakti Shakti), enhancing connectivity across key suburban, residential, and industrial areas in Pune.

During the celebration, RVNL employees reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the highest quality standards across all project activities. Knowledge sessions focused on quality assurance, innovation, and global best practices in infrastructure execution.

The PIU Pune team shared several achievements, including reducing the standard deviation of quality parameters to 0.84, indicating improved consistency and precision. Structural innovations such as jointless piers using 8–10-meter shuttering have enhanced both durability and aesthetics, while cement optimization through multiple mix design trials reduced material use without compromising strength.

The event reinforced RVNL’s commitment to building safe, sustainable, and future-ready infrastructure, positioning quality as a key driver of India’s vision for ‘Viksit Bharat’.

On this occasion, Shri Vinay Kumar Agrawal, Chief Project Manager, PIU Pune, stated, “The project is being implemented with advanced technical sophistication, segmental construction, large spans, and elevated viaduct structures. Our team is fully committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality, ensuring that every aspect of segment casting and viaduct construction meets stringent performance benchmarks with minimal joints.”

Commenting on the occasion, Shri S.C. Jain, CMD, RVNL, said, “At RVNL, we always prioritize quality in every structure we build. The Government of India’s vision of infrastructure-led growth is mirrored in our commitment to precision, sustainability, and excellence. Our workforce is deeply sensitized to quality management and global best practices. Through this commitment, we aim not only to contribute to India’s modern transport ecosystem but also to its strong and resilient future.”
