Strategic highway in HP to get two-lane upgrade

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO)
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is set to undertake a significant infrastructure project known as 'Project Deepak' to upgrade the connectivity between the picturesque valleys of Pangi in Chamba and Lahaul in Lahaul-Spiti, Himachal Pradesh. The current single-lane road, marred by numerous unmetalled stretches, has been causing inconvenience to motorists. However, with the implementation of this project, the highway will be transformed into a double-lane national highway, ensuring year-round connectivity and facilitating the construction of various hydropower projects situated in high mountainous locations.

The existing road has been prone to disruptions during winters due to avalanches and landslides during monsoons. With a deep river valley on one side and a steep hard-rock face on the other, featuring precariously hanging rocks, travel on this road has become perilous for both tourists and local motorists. Recognizing its strategic importance as a vital link between Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, the BRO has been entrusted with the task of upgrading it to double-lane standards.

Recently, the Border Roads Task Force stationed in the region has submitted a comprehensive project report for the road stretch from Udaipur to Tindi to 'Project Deepak.' Additionally, the task force is actively working on preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the remaining two stretches, namely from Shour to Killar and from Tandi to Thirot. These DPRs are expected to be completed in the near future, further expediting the progress of this crucial infrastructure initiative.
