BRO launches work on 135-km long border road in Ladakh

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO)
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has commenced the construction of the strategically significant Chusul-Dungti-Fukche-Demchok Road in eastern Ladakh, aiming to expedite road development along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. Spanning 135 kilometers, the road construction will facilitate smooth troop movement towards the LAC. The project falls under BRO's Project Himank, led by Colonel Ponung Doming, who has become the first woman officer to be appointed as Task Force Commander at an altitude above 15,000 feet.

Situated near the confluence of Charding Nullah and Indus River, the Demchok sector holds immense strategic importance. Chushul, located in Ladakh's Leh district, lies in the Durbuk tehsil south of Pangong Lake and west of Spanggur Lake. The LAC with China runs approximately 5 kilometers east of Chushul, across the Chushul Valley. Colonel Ponung Doming hails from Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh's East Siang district and has brought pride to her state by assuming command at the world's highest border roads outpost.
