Jitendra Singh Lays Foundation For 110 PMGSY Roads Worth Rs 1,503 Crore In J&K
The projects have a combined sanctioned cost of Rs 1,503.53 crore and are expected to benefit 46,972 people across Kathua, Udhampur, Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar districts. The projects are aimed at providing all-weather connectivity to remote and difficult-to-access habitations in the hilly region.
Giving the district-wise details, Dr Jitendra Singh said Udhampur accounts for 44 projects covering 235.040 km at a sanctioned cost of Rs 554.90 crore, while Kathua has 24 projects covering 128.925 km at Rs 307.12 crore. Ramban has 13 projects covering 60.360 km at Rs 154.97 crore, Doda has 13 projects covering 90.180 km at Rs 260.66 crore, and Kishtwar has 16 projects covering 83.950 km at Rs 224.88 crore.
Dr Jitendra Singh said the projects would strengthen last-mile connectivity and improve access to education, healthcare, markets, employment and other essential services for communities living in remote hilly areas.
A notable feature of the new road projects is the planned use of waste plastic in road construction across several packages, supporting the adoption of more sustainable construction practices alongside rural connectivity development.
The Minister also highlighted the strategic importance of improved road connectivity in remote areas, stating that better roads would facilitate faster movement of security forces while supporting development and access to essential services for local communities.
He said the latest package reflects the government's continued focus on taking all-weather road connectivity to the remotest habitations and strengthening the rural road network across the Udhampur-Kathua-Doda-Kishtwar region.
