Six lane highway project in Delhi receives land transfer approval
The Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi has granted approval for the transfer of 1.11 acres of land to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to facilitate the completion of a six-lane highway. This under-construction highway, a crucial part of the Bharatmala Pariyojna initiative, aims to alleviate traffic congestion between Delhi and the NCR cities of Faridabad and Noida. The NHAI had urgently requested the transfer of this land parcel in January. The 9-kilometer access-controlled highway forms an extension connecting the Delhi Noida Direct (DND) Flyway to the Delhi Mumbai Expressway.
However, the approval comes with a condition that the NHAI will utilize the inert and construction and demolition (C&D) waste generated in Delhi during and after the construction process. Additionally, the NHAI is required to make the necessary payment for the land. Once completed, the highway will provide connectivity to major roads, including the Delhi-Noida Direct Flyway, Delhi-Meerut, Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP), NH-2 (Delhi-Agra), Delhi Mumbai Expressway, and Jewar airport. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted that the Delhi region will feature a cross-elevated metro railway line at four locations along this section.
