NHAI unveils Edappally-Aroor elevated highway in Kochi
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to construct a 16.7km-long elevated highway from Edappally to Aroor, crossing over the Kochi Metro viaduct at Vyttila and Edappally junctions. The congested and narrow Edappally-Aroor stretch of NH 66 has the highest vehicular density in the state. After conducting inspections, NHAI has realized that an elevated highway is the best solution to avoid the congestion. In this connection, NHAI is in the process of preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the elevated structure as part of the ongoing road widening efforts on national highways. The Kochi Metro viaduct is situated at a height of 18 to 19 metres above the road level at the two junctions. Since there are flyovers at these junctions, the proposed elevated structure can only be constructed above the Metro viaduct.
