The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is all set to float a tender to select a project management consultant for the upkeep and mechanised sweeping of 1,400km roads in the city. The project is expected to require an estimated investment of Rs.20,000 crore in the next few years. Presently, the maintenance of these roads is undertaken by the Public Works Department, while sanitation services, including garbage removal and road sweeping, are the responsibility of MCD. The proposed project includes a comprehensive plan for road maintenance, desilting and cleaning, including the sweeping of footpaths. The project management consultant (PMC) will collaborate with the civic body to assist at every stage, commencing with the finalisation of the detailed project report, preparation of the financial estimates, invitation of bids, and assessment of the quality of work carried out by the selected concessionaire.
