NHAI to start work on 20.6 km long elevated highway
The National Highway Authority of India has initiated the process of the construction of 20.6 km long doubledecker elevated highway between Chennai Port and Maduravoyal involving ₹58.55 billion investment, said official NHAI sources, claiming that tenders have already been floated for the construction of a two-tiered, four-lane elevated corridor from Port to Maduravoyal as part of PM’s Gati Shakti program and the corridor will be built in four phases. The 12 km section of the 20.6 km corridor will be double-decked. While the project is expected to take 24 to 36 months to complete, the priority is to obtain land belonging to the Indian Navy by constructing separate quarters for them on army land in Saidapet. The Union transport minister, Nitin Gandkari, has recently cleared deadlock and by engaging litigants for an out-of-court settlement.
