NHAI to build ₹1,500-cr highway bypass project in AP
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched the construction of the Vijayawada East bypass highway in Andhra Pradesh, connecting the Krishna and Guntur districts across the Krishna River. The bypass project, which has an estimated investment of ₹1,500 crore, will form part of the Chennai-Kolkata national highway. Stretching a total of 50 km, the bypass will run from Pottipadu Plaza near Unguturu to Chinakakani in the Guntur district, passing through several towns and villages including Gannavaram, Kankipadu, and Vuyyur. The project will relieve traffic congestion in Vijayawada, particularly at the Benz circle and Ramavarappadu junctions. A large bridge will be built near Madduru on the Krishna River to connect the two districts. NHAI has requested that the state government bear the costs for land acquisition, estimated at ₹500 crore, and quickly hand over the necessary land to the authority. In contrast, the Vijayawada West Bypass project has been underway for a few years, with over 90% of the work already completed.
