NHAI begins groundwork for ₹4,000-cr Angamaly-Kundannoor NH project
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated groundwork for the Angamaly-Kundannoor greenfield national highway project with an investment of ₹4,000 crore, according to official sources. Land acquisition is set to start soon, with the NHAI having handed over documents to the revenue department for clarification on land requirements. Once the details of the land are received, a 3A notification will be published, which is expected to take about a month. The proposed greenfield highway, which will pass through 17 villages in the district, will have a project cost, including land acquisition cost, of ₹1,400 crore. The 47.4-km stretch of the project will begin from Karayamparambu near Angamaly. The NHAI is planning to construct trumpet flyovers at Karayamparambu in Angamaly, Kundannoor, and Puthencruz, where the Kochi-Theni highway will intersect. The new greenfield highway will pass through lesser-populated areas of the district and will be a partially access-controlled corridor. Though work on other national highways is under consideration, priority will be given to the greenfield highway, and construction work is set to start soon.
