Mumbai-Goa national highway work to be completed by December 2023
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari informed that the ongoing work on the Mumbai-Goa national highway will be completed by December this year, which is expected to reduce the travel time between the two cities to four and a half hours, giving a significant impetus to the development in Maharashtra's Konkan region. The Mumbai-Goa highway stretch has been divided into 10 packages, and the construction activity for all but two packages is almost complete. Most of the pending construction work, including one tunnel, will be finished by December this year.
As part of the highway construction, two tunnels are also under construction in the Kashedi ghat region. One tunnel will be open for vehicular traffic before the monsoon season, while the construction of the remaining tunnel is expected to be completed by October this year.
The Mumbai-Goa highway passes through 66 tourist spots in Konkan and is expected to give a significant boost to the region's development, while also ensuring quick transportation of fruits and other produce for which the region is known.
