MoRTH to Implement Quality-Centric Tendering for Safer Highways
Gadkari unveiled this initiative during the International Road Federations’ event on Vision Zero – a campaign targeting road safety through comprehensive measures. Collaboratively organized by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Maruti Suzuki, the event served as a platform to emphasize the significance of prioritizing road safety in infrastructure development.
"By embracing qualitative tendering, we aim to infuse projects with enhanced quality and safety features," Gadkari affirmed. He emphasized the necessity of integrating safer road designs tailored to accommodate the behavior of road users.
Highlighting instances where safety features were compromised to cut costs, Gadkari underscored the pivotal role of road engineering in mitigating accidents. He stressed the importance of integrating robust road engineering solutions into detailed project reports (DPR) to address this pressing concern effectively. KK Kapila, President Emeritus of the International Road Federation (IRF), emphasized the holistic nature of promoting road safety. Kapila articulated that a comprehensive approach encompassing road engineering, vehicle design, enforcement, education, and emergency care is vital for fostering a safe transportation ecosystem. "The successful implementation of the 5 E's in road safety—awareness, road infrastructure improvement, law compliance, responsible behavior promotion, and safety measures refinement—will collectively contribute to a safer road network," Kapila concluded.
